Yes and no. In the first instance (and this accounts for his becoming what he was rather than just another bright philosopher) he recognized that the European working class was already engaged in a struggle to change the world. It distorts Marx's thought to see it as coming, in the first instance, from Hegel, Ricardo etc. rather than from his joining that already ongoing struggle and attempting to explain it to itself (and as the Theses show, first of all to himself).
