The Nation's lead editorial is the first thing I've seen (excepting perhaps Robert Reich's biweekly broadcasts on NPR's "Marketplace") that echoes Max's jeremiad against debt paydown in a mainstream forum. And their simile about the house and mortgage is pretty snappy, almost sound-bite ready. Now if only someone would bite.
