Samori Marksman, program director of WBAI, the Pacifica outlet in NYC, died in his sleep last night. This is a serious loss in several ways. He was a fine person - smart, knowledgeable, witty, with a serious devotion to radical politics. He was a major bulwark against the NPR-ization of WBAI, which is something the Pacifica national board has been pushing for years. I suspect that that fight contributed to his early death. Without him, the future of serious political programming on WBAI is pretty wobbly.
