LESLIE DACH Vice Chairman, Edelman Worldwide General Manager <mailto: leslie_dach at edelman.com>

Leslie Dach is the Vice Chairman of Edelman Worldwide and manages Edelman's Washington office. He also directs the company's global Public Affairs practice. Dach has twenty years of experience in politics, lobbying and communications.

At Edelman, Dach has directed some of the agency's most visible public affairs assignments. He is an expert in issues management, image programs, and using communications to support legislative and regulatory objectives. Dach is an experienced lobbyist, field organizer and media relations strategist. He maintains ongoing relationships with key leaders in the media, government and constituency groups.

In technology and telecommunications, Dach has directed high profile assignments for such clients as Microsoft, the Motion Picture Association of America, AT&T, MCI and Sprint. In the environmental arena, he managed StarKist's announcement of its Dolphin Safe tuna policy, and has worked with Heinz, S.C. Johnson, Union Camp and Safety-Kleen on a variety of lobbying and communications programs. On health care, Dach has represented Genentech, American Home Products, the Biotechnology Industry Organization, and Calgene on pricing, safety and tax issues. Dach also has represented a number of foreign governments, including Chile, Portugal, and India.

Before joining Edelman in 1989, Dach served fifteen months as communications director of the Dukakis for President Committee. Dach directed the campaign's free media -- scheduling, press, issues, speechwriting, opposition research and quick response. He also served as one of the campaign's key national spokesperson to print and electronic media. Dach has worked in three presidential campaigns. He was director of scheduling and advance for Geraldine Ferraro and a member of the scheduling and advance team for President Carter and Senator Kennedy.

In addition to politics, Dach has worked for almost a decade as a lobbyist for a number of environmental groups, including the National Audubon Society and the Environmental Defense Fund. He has managed lobbying coalitions for the entire environmental movement on major pollution legislation such as the Clean Air Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and Superfund. He also lobbied regulatory agencies such as EPA, CPSC and FDA. Dach's work for environmental groups has included direct lobbying, extensive grassroots lobbying, and press relations.

Dach has also served as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, responsible for all Committee communications, press relations, and field hearings.

Dach has been interviewed on all three network evening news shows, morning shows, and extensively in newspapers and magazines. He has proven relationships with key national and regional reporters, editors, producers, and news executives. Dach has extensive experience in crisis management, development of a strategic message based on survey research, and delivering that message through issue stands, events, speeches and press coverage.

Dach has a B.S. in biology from Yale University and a M.P.A. from Harvard University. He serves on the Board of Directors of the National Audubon Society and the National Environmental Education Training Foundation.
