errr... because either there's no such thing as "old fashioned independance" anymore or what did go by name of national "independance" was in fact a rather fleeting bipolarity of the world market, in which case, it was hardly independance. nor does it bode well that szamuely subsumes (redefines) communism into (as) nationalism, as doug notes. not much there for russian workers as far as i can see. putin as "freedom fighter"? ptui!
