I tend to agree with Doug here. Herman and Du Boff are setting up some straw people of their own to knock down. I mean, it seems like the problem's with the terminology. H & DB want to blame "globalization" rather than "capitalism" or "imperialism." Also, who cares where something is made? Let's ship all our jobs to high wage Europe.

Herman's done a lot of good work, but this piece sort of reminds me of his bashing of human rights organizations. So they don't focus on capitalism, so what? They've done a lot of good work. Maybe it's because I'm approaching 30 and am becoming increasingly untrustworthy, but this sort of "out-lefting" or outflanking I'm starting to find tiresome - pretty quibbling and obvious.

Sorta like those who bash Rage Against the Machine who's timely The Battle of Los Angeles album is number one on the charts. Yes they're making millions and their politics aren't dead on, but at least they'll reach a few kids. from their website: http://www.ratm.com/action/readinglist.html letters in response to the Salon hatchet job: http://www.salonmagazine.com/letters/1999/11/30/horowitz/index1.html
