Doug says:
>I heard a fine talk tonight by Gayatri Spivak at the Brecht Forum in
>NYC, but I've got neither the time nor skill to report on it. But I
>thought all you partisans of clarity might enjoy her statement: "I
>wish I could write clearer prose.... I've tried...."

According to Terry Eagleton, in her new book _A Critique of Post-Colonial Reason_, Spivak 'contrasts her own critique of metropolitan post-colonial theory with her Indian colleague Aijaz Ahmad's scorching assault on it in his book _In Theory_, and describes her own volume as "more nuanced with a productive acknowledgement of complicity."' (Eagleton snorts, of course.)

For Eagleton's review "In the Gaudy Supermarket," visit <http://www.lrb.co.uk/v21/n10/eagl2110.htm>. Be warned that both the style and content of the review are predictable (but so is the book reviewed).
