hey Eric,

>Well, sure. I think perhaps we miscommunicated on this.<

apologies then. i was reflexing.

> In my initial post I purposefully avoided that old argument about clear
vs. unintelligible writing, pomo vs. mo, etc. Frankly, I'm rather tired of that whole debate, which I think has lead nowhere. The (deeply hidden) "message"--dig the way I pomoistically put quotes around that word to show that it's a...oh, never mind--embedded in my post was actually criticizing Spivak for reviving that tired conversation as a defense of herself (see my response to Doug). <

yes, it does lead nowhere and has led nowhere, both. for spivak though i suspect that because attending to the ways in which self-evidence is constituted and fails to be constituted effectively is one of her things, then that argument is not one that is outside her horizon of debates. or it could just be that it gives her the shits more than it does you or i, her being a regular object of those complaints on a regular basis it seems.

>perhaps in "real-life"--there I go again--situations we would have
differences.<

gee, i'd hope so. would be pretty dull otherwise.

> Yes, Jimmy Joyce writes in English, but I am learning whole new languages
of novel structure, thought, and experience, idioms that I have never experienced before and that force me to constantly reevaluate the one that I use.<

joyce i've never read more than a few pages of. is joyce's idiom related to the place of irish within and outside of english?
