As the one who supposedly thinks "postmodernism" so new, I'm really confused about what this means. Gitlin's piece sounds like old-fashioned liberal imperialism to me, right out of the Dissent playbook. And isn't he the guy who's killed so many trees and heated so much air denouncing "identity" politics over the years in the name of the old verities?
