***** Directors of Radio Television Kosovo assume duties

Eric Lehmann, the newly appointed chief for Radio Television Kosovo (RTK) took up his position at the end of September, according to a statement from the Kosovo mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Lehmann, a former president of the Swiss Broadcasting Association, is heading the joint operations of RTK and is to direct its transformation into a modern broadcasting company.

He will be assisted by two directors. A Kosovo Albanian, Agim Fetahaj, a former international radio broadcaster for the Albanian-language service of Voice of America, will head Radio Kosovo. A director for the television service is expected to be named soon, the OSCE statement said. Both directors will have deputies who are from Kosovo, a predominantly ethnic-Albanian province in southwestern Serbia....

...In recent weeks, as staffing decisions were being considered for RTK, journalists who had worked at Radio TV Pristina were angry that few of them were being considered for RTK postions. These journalists, because they are ethnic Albanians, lost their jobs at Radio TV Pristina in 1990 when Slobodan Milosevic became Serbian president. International officials organizing RTK said the fired journalists lacked necessary linguistic and technological skills....
