Really? I thought it had more to do with the Blair/Clinton moral crusade which paints ordinary people as helpless dupes of tobacco advertising and pathetic victims of nicotine dependency, needing a more repressive and interfering state to protect them. Some of us might live a bit longer as a result but look at the trade-offs.
How is it that Chris continues to find progressive tendencies in some of the worst elements of capital's experiments in reshaping the way it dominates the world?
