Thanks, Tom,
<p>Although behind the humor, there is serious politics.
<br>Its the equivalent of having Robeson sing the Internationale
at a White House dinner.
<br>This event is full of implications of Japan's ambition on Taiwan.
<br>Have you followed the TMD system (Theater Missile Defense) proposed
by Washington that includes Japan, Taiwan and the US? It is an undisguised
anti-China system.
<br>The Japanese are fully behind the Taiwan independence movement which
it and Washington officially are against.
<br>Beijing consisders Lee, who was born in Japan, as an agent of Japan,
with tacit US support.
<br>Asia is never what it appears in the Western press.
<p>Best,
<p>Henry

<p>TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) - A Japanese woman who won a shouting contest by
screaming ``Cheer up, Lee Teng-hui'' was more soft-spoken when she met
the Taiwanese president in person Sunday.
<p>Mamiko Kobayashi demurely wished Lee a happy birthday during their brief
meeting in a square outside the presidential office building in Taipei.
Lee turned 76 last Friday.
<p>But she recreated her winning shriek for reporters, letting loose with
a piercing Japanese rendition of her good wishes, which loosely translate
as cheer up, or ``let's go.''
<p>Kobayashi, 24, a student of Chinese at National Taiwan Normal University,
won the screaming contest in Japan, which was held at the height of campaigning
for Taiwan's legislative elections last December.
<p>``I like Lee Teng-hui very much because you always see him smiling.
Most politicians are too stern,'' Kobayashi told reporters.
<p>Kobayashi, who won the contest with her 111.6 decibel outburst, was
awarded a $850 prize.
