</b></font>NEW DELHI: Putting their ``elephantine'' foot down on software piracy in the country, National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) and Business Software Alliance (BSA) made an elephant crush scores of pirated software CDs seized during recent raids.<P>
``We will not hesitate to take stringent action against sellers and users of illegal software in India,'' said NASSCOM president Dewang Mehta at the symbolic `crushing ceremony'.<P>
NASSCOM-BSA have broadened anti-piracy programme over the past few months. Piracy rate in India is estimated to be around 60 per cent in India, accounting for an annual loss of over Rs 700 crore to the industry. ``Our aim is to have lowest piracy rate, around 25 per cent, in the country over the next three to five years,'' Mr Mehta said.<P>
According to the International Property Association, in 1997, global losses due to piracy for software business were around $185 billion for business software, $35 billion for entertainment and educational software and over $30 million for operating system.<P>
