Re events in Okinawa: Some Asian activists are planning a conference on alternatives to security in Asia - ie addressing the US military presence in Asia that presently few US activists (and in particular the AFL-CIO) have barely even thought about. That is, why after the Cold War does the US still maintain 100,000 ground troops in Japan, S. Korea and Okinawa? For information, contact me and I can forward your messages to the conference organizers, who include Walden Bello and Muto Ichiyo, both long-time Asian activists. Tim Shorrock
