In college, during the Gulf War I had read a book by Stephen Ambrose on America's foreign policy after World War II for a course on international politics. Rather ignorant at the time, I was struck by the fact that Schwarzkopf organized the Shah's imperial guard for the coup. Don't ask me why, but I had thought it was the same Schwarzkopf who was then briefing the press on the war.
