Oil-for-food deal with Iraq made The Times of India News Service
NEW DELHI: India and Iraq has reached an understanding, whereby Iraq would import foodgrain, especially wheat, in exchange for crude oil and oil products. It has also been decided that the ONGC Videsh Ltd. would help develop the Tuba oilfields in Iraq.
The Iraqi vice-president Taha Yassin Ramadhan on Wednesday pointed out the `inertia' that had crept into the relations between the two countries in the last 10 years. He, however, described this visit as a ``turning point'' in bilateral relations and pronounced it successful.
Strongly criticising the sanctions against Iraq, India, on its part, has said that it would take up the matter and see some positive response from the global community.
