So if, say, we had a direct popular vote for president in a community whose politics and media were dominated by associations of rich, powerful people, and where the needs, desires and will of the great majority of the population were ignored, this would be "one person, one vote"? There'd be something legitimate about it?
I'm assuming here for the sake of the discussion that the mass violence of the State _can_ be legitimated by getting a majority of the adults in a community to sign on to it. To me, what's wrong remains wrong even if it wins elections.
I'm not particularly attacking Gore, by the way. I'm just reminding you all of what he represents, something which seems to be slipping away in the fog of electoral circus.
