I think this concept is linked to Voltaire - the intellectual protagonists of _Candide_ end up doing gardening work.

Although the above named individuals might be mental whores in a dire need of learning the virtues of manual labor - we have to look into the social organization of production (aka taylorism) and the division of labor it creates for the culprits.
