Probably I should give this another subject line, but I'm not sure how to label it. Chuck implicitly raises a general question here that I think I raised once before in connection with one of Chuck's posts on computing. Popularly it's known as the "Information Explosion." There is *so* much out there to learn. And I have argued with Doug at some length on this also -- in reference to the number of books to read. So what Chuck raises in the passage quoted has to do with *mental* labor, not physical labor, and it becomes a matter of making a selection from the huge library of human knowledge.

I don't know how to resolve it -- but I do know that increasingly my hackles rise a bit each time someone adds one more thing to the list of what "everyone" should know.
