Some of these names are no surprise, but it is sad to see Ascherson (author of a hopeful book on Solidarnosc in its glory days), David Held and Goran Therborn, whom I thought of as pretty tough minded, no-nonsensertheorists, and )although I know he's not tough minded, my old teacher Gareth Steadman Jones ,on this list. On the other hand, Tom Nairn is there, and he's no New Timesoid, tro say the least, so many this book just resflects different perspectives, critical and otherwise.
