I'm interested in the Honda Insight, too, (price: see link).
I ran some simple numbers to see how it compares to my
twelve-year-old Accord (with 250k miles logged).

For 100,000 miles of use:

Car        Gal. Used:    Cost/Gal.    MPG    Gas Exp.

Accord    3450            $1.40         29        $4850.
Accord    3450            $3.00         29        $10,350.

Insight     1430            $1.40         70        $2002.
Insight     1430            $3.00         70        $4290.

Since I keep buying good used Hondas for $5-6k I'll
never make out buying a new Insight since it saves
only about $2800 to $6000, depending on gas price.
(It may look real good when they've been on the used

 mkt awhile;  new cost is ~$19K)      -Steve Grube
