BRUSSELS, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Some progress was made in four
days of talks between the European Union and China on Beijing's
bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) but not enough for EU negotiators to believe a deal could be reached now, a European Commission spokesman said on Thursday. Spokesman Anthony
Gooch also said the EU-China talks were being conducted on trade criteria and had not been influenced by controversy over China's demand that Taiwan enter unification talks or face attack. "The WTO
talks are being taken forward on the basis of the criteria of accession
to the WTO," he said.
