Former Senator Bill Bradley, speaking to reporters in Everett, Wash., said he was stunned by the acquittals. "I think that it shows that when racial profiling seeps so deeply into somebody's mind, a wallet in the hand of a white man looks like a wallet, but a wallet in the hand of a black man looks like a gun."
Vice President Al Gore, flying from Ohio to California, issued a more neutral statement, urging calm and noting that the case would now be reviewed by the Justice Department. "That review should be thorough and fair," Mr. Gore said. _________________________________
