I'll have to ask my friend Eric who was in YSA in the period preceeding the split in the SWP that produced Socialist Action (he would have followed his mentors in the San Francisco SWP into it, if college and getting tired of the ,"and Leon Trotsky said in 19_ _," as the answer to everything) about the Trotskyist relative (and alcoholic Stalinists too in the family tree, he would at family reunions/arguments bawl out , "You're booooorrrrjjjjjjjjwwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!) who told of SWP meetings where outside, CPUSA'ers would threaten to do to them, with ice-picks what Trotsky's assassin did.

On a lesser note: anyone ever see the dreadful movie with Richard Burton playing The Old Man in Mexico. Saw on late night TV once, forget who played Frieda Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Even worse is another late night movie I saw entitled, Che, ". Forget the actors.

And a question about the son of Earl Browder. Last week on lbo a Financial Times piece on the markets quoted a, "William Browder." Am I right this is a (the) son, of Earl, "Communism Is the Americanism Of the Twentieth Century, " Browder?

P.S. In the interests of accuracy, I made an error, about which M-L list was so insufferable. The one I was on for a while, was the M-L list at egroups.com

Oh, and will look at a representative "bad" proletarian novel like Clara Weatherwax'es, " "Marching, Marching, " is reputed to be, and a good one like say, Mike Gold, Kenneth Fearing, or John Fante's are considered to be, so my "Rahvite" tendencies can be corrected a little with actual reading, rather than just the secondary sources I cited in the " Revolution #9/ Proletarian Novel" post.

Final squiblet, another Kenneth, this one Kenneth Patchen, from the same era has always fascinated me. Any other fans out there? Read, " The Journal of Albion Moonlight, "City Lights for starters. Got to see his widow and the publisher of New Directions, whose name escapes me, when she gave a collection of his papers and art to the Special Collections Dept., of UC, Santa Cruz.
