Chris Bramall, *In Praise of Maoist Economic Planning: Living Standards and Economic Development in Sichuan since 1931.* Clarendon Press, Oxford: 1993. A mere 385 pages.

Challenges recent reassessments by Carl Riskin, Mark Selden, and Peter Nolan. Have just snagged it and perused the Conclusion. Makes the point that once you call into question the notion that per capita income is not the best indicator of econo development (as the Wbank and other folk do), then the historical record of MZ et al., appears more and more impressive.
