Thanks to Yoshie for her insightful comments. Will it be relevant to
mention Fromm in this context? Eric Fromm, who in his own way tried to
reconcile Marx and Freud, did that largely by historicizing Freud, ( with
the help of Marx's theory of history) which, among other things meant the
abandonment of several key Freudian categories such as, the libido theory,
the Oedipus complex, and the biological determinism of the instinct.
