Bad news indeed.  For the first time in my adult life (and I turn 50 
Saturday), I have been unable to take any interest whatsoever in the 
presidential race, a campaign that seems to be the emptiest exercise of all 
history.  I was taking some comfort in the notion the rest of the nation 
felt the same way -- now this!
