Albright: Post-Soviet Life Tougher
Sunday January 30, 2000 2:50 pm
DAVOS, Switzerland (AP) - Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, en route to Moscow for high-level talks, said Sunday that life in the former Soviet Union is often tougher for ordinary people now than under the Communists.
In a speech to the World Economic Forum, a gathering of scores of government leaders and hundreds of corporate executives, Albright said over the past decade life has become harder for many in former Soviet republics.
``A majority of citizens in these countries have come to equate democracy with inequality, insecurity and the unraveling of the social fabric,'' she said.
