OCALA, Florida -- A man convicted of beating a dog because he thought it was homosexual was sentenced to six months in jail and ordered to take an anger management course. George Stephens Finley, 58, hit the animal with a hard plastic vacuum cleaner wand in the head and threw it against a tree last July. The dog lapsed into a coma and two hours later was put to sleep by a veterinarian. Witnesses testified that Finley was upset the neutered male dog, a poodle/Yorkshire terrier mix, repeatedly tried to engage in sexual activity with another family dog, a male Jack Russell terrier.
