Two of the local Fordists, one of whom I know personally and have always thought was ok, had a joint letter in the Sunday paper advocating what would be the 15th publicly funded industrial park in this county.
The Fordist brainstorm would be another industrial park based at the county airport, an existing small field servicing private planes. This is a greenfields site surrounded by farmland in a rural township. To accomplish this my Fordist friends are suggesting that the airport be annexed by a gerrymander with a local municipality. The only problem is that the municipality doing the annexing already has a large uncompleted industrial park and a number of brownfields areas in it and other projects like a large abandoned GM facility. So now they want to sprawl out further into the greenfields at public expense.
To top it all off, because of the road network, the Cleveland Hopkins airport is only an easy 20-30 minutes away from the municipality that wants to do the annexing.
So you might cut your travel time by 10 to 15 minutes by landing in this county. That's if you don't hit any traffic lights.
Naturally, this project will be done at taxpayer expense and the price tag will be huge for an industrial park, airport expansion and all the related infrastructer & services.
I'm sure the justification of this project from the Fordists will be "just in time" to keep up with the foreign and domestic competiton.
