***PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY****

On July 8th a coalition was formed in order to mobilize forces to protest against the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia. Over 200 groups have co-sponsored a demonstration called by "Unity 2000" on July 30, the day before the Republicans meet. Days of direct action will follow. From the barbaric, Texas Death Row of presidential hopeful, George W. Bush, to Giuliani's Workfare program in New York, we need to show these politicians know what we think of their racist, anti-poor, anti-union agenda!

At our first coalition meeting over 40 people showed up, representing many different organizations including United Students Against Sweatshops, UNITE, Direct Action Network, Refuse and Resist, Food not Bombs, The International Socialist Organization, Acorn, Human Rights Watch, Campaign to End the Death Penalty, August 1st Coalition, The Socialist Party, Modern Times Collective, Make the Road by Walking, And more!!

We had a great discussion on both what various groups were already working on, as well as what we could all do together.

Out of the meeting came the following things:

* A voicemail # with bus info for people to call * A flyer to publicize the demonstration * A teach-in (Friday, July 21 @7PM --Washington Sq. Methodist Church, 135 W.4th St.) with a list of speakers we're trying to get

THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON MONDAY, JULY 17TH AT THE UNITE OFFICE: 1710 Broadway (between 54th and 55th St)

There's never been a better time to get involved in what's shaping up to be the most exciting demonstration on the east coast this summer....
