The article was interesting. Richard Florida, by the way, was on pen-l for
while. One other factor comes to mind. Rents are very high in San
Francisco. Single men, who can afford to rent their own place in St. Louis,
often have to double up in SF, for reasons other than sex. To the extent
that this phenomenon is true in the other high tech cities, it may affect the
results -- But the article probably has noticed a very interesting
association.
Incidentally, if the research were done by an economist, would the
association have been noticed or would the emphasis been on the model that
was used ....
