Arson Attack on Asylum Home
LUDWIGSHAFEN. An arson attack on a home for political asylum seekers here on Sunday left three Kosovo-Albanian children injured, one of them seriously. Police said there was no immediate indication of a motive for the crime, but that political extremism could not be ruled out.
According to police, a Molotov cocktail was thrown through a ground-floor window of the home in the Oppau district of this industrial city in Rhineland-Palatinate state just before 1:40 a.m. The unknown attacker or attackers apparently approached the home, which houses 30 to 40 asylum claimants, from an adjacent railroad track.
An 11-year-old girl suffered serious burns to both of her legs, while another girl, 12, and a boy, 14, suffered minor cuts to their hands. The latter two were treated and released from hospital. (dpa, AP)
