He was in the CP, an uncommon group to join in
the early 1970's, IMO.

People haven't mentioned one obvious possibility
re: Olasky's "transformation."  He could have been
a cop, sent to do a brief stint as a member before
capitalizing on his expat status (usefully described
by Irving Howe as "the authority of failure.").

Anyone recall what trend of "marxism" Olasky came out of?
Was it CPUSA or maoism or something else?
