Italian, Asian Americans Strongest in Support of Death Penalty
UTICA, N.Y. (Reuters/Zogby) - Italian and Asian Americans gave overwhelming support for the death penalty in a recent nationwide poll.
In a Zogby Culture survey of nearly 4,000 likely voters in six major ethnic minorities, 78.4% of Italian Americans and 75.3% of Asian Americans supported the death penalty.
Similar numbers of Hispanics (72.9%) and Arab Americans (71.7%) voted likewise, and Jewish voters trailed at 67.3%.
African Americans (63.9%) were the least supportive of the policy.
When the question was posed to the general population in a previous Zogby America poll, 63.9% of the overall respondents supported the death penalty, and 26.8% did not.
