Ah, JH, long time no kvetch.  Surely there is some middle path between the 
sheer barbarism of 1900 with its backbreaking labor, arsenic-laden 
wallpaper, etc. and the sheer barbarism of the Brave New World that lies in 
wait with its genetically engineering social determinism and potential for 
mutant plagues.
