One of the things that is often mentioned with considerable satisfaction by the "antis" (traditionalists and conservatives) in the Usenet newsgroup talk.politics.animals is that among "animal-rights" enthusiasts the predominant type is urban, female, unmarried and low-income -- four strikes! Perhaps such people are New-Agey as well, but they don't seem to be richer, and their alienation from the present-day needs of developing nations probably reflects their alienation from the present-day needs of highly developed nations, and as well the alienation of the present-day needs of highly- developed nations from them. So to speak.

Like, old ladies in tennis shoes. The salt of the earth.
