Rakesh, how interesting to see you quoting Tom Friedman approvingly. Politics indeed makes strange bedfellows.

I thought most U.S. and African "progressives" opposed the Africa Growth & Opportunity Act pretty intensely. Maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe Friedman is invoking what Marx called the philanthropy of manufacturers in his 1848 speech on free trade.
