Jim,
That Stalinist strategists of popular fronts (an alliance of good
bourgeoisie with the people) and reactionary populist champions of small
business have pointed to the existence of monopoly profits does not
disprove that they can indeed exist. Marx entertained the possibility that
bad (fetishistic) monetary theory to which rentiers were particularly
attracted could indeed at times be acted on despite its deleterious
consequences on industrial capitalists and workers.
