On Tue, 14 Mar 2000, Doug Henwood quoted the WSJ saying:
> In 1998, the most recent year for which data are available, the median
> net worth for Hispanic, African-American, Asian and other minority
> families was $16,400.
The median net worth for families?? Wow. Two queries. One, are the Asian-American family medians for income and wealth below the national medians?
> That was less than one-fifth -- 17.28% to be precise -- the $94,900
> median net worth for non-Hispanic white families.
And two, this is counting those fabled 401k-s? It looks like the median person hasn't saved squat. And we're not even counting their debts here, are we?
> The ratio was up only slightly from 17.23% in 1992, according to a
> recently released survey of 4,309 families conducted for the U.S.
> Federal Reserve.
Doesn't this negate the main thrust of the article, that recent rises in stock market value have anything substantial to do with it?
