no kidding! they've been doing it for years and i think that we ought to be prepping for the use of some of this stuff next month and this summer. the following is part of what i found at .mil sites and a conference (there are many) devoted to theoretical and research issues. i asked chuck0 if he wanted all the info i've gathered on this but haven't heard... about a third of this has been tested at the proof of concept level, some of it has been used in gulf, somalia, bosnia :

CLASSIFICATION OF NON-LETHAL WEAPONS:

Weapons That Stun or Deter

1. Projectile

--Stun grenades ("flash-bangs") create blinding flash of light and loud explosion which stuns. --Plastic and rubber bullets with cause sharp pain --Bean-bag bullet (filled with plastic or rubber shot) discharged by air-powered device --40-mm non-lethal sponge grenade, plastic body and foam rubber nose

2. Chemical

--CS gas/tear gas, irritates external and internal membranes of eyes, throat, lungs --Sleeping gas, a chemical spray that makes people fall asleep

3. Light

--Xenon flashlight, flashes controlled to the micro-second by computer chip. --Flashes or lasers that will destroy aiming, optic, and sighting equipment of the enemy.

4. Lasers

•--In 1995 U.S. marines used dazzling lasers to stun and blind Somalis to avoid infliciting death and serious injurty. rned hostile.

5. Electromagnetic, Thermal Weapons

--Gun that would initiate epileptic-like seizures --Thermal guns to heat the body to 105degrees farenheit.

Eldon Byrd headed up the Marine Corps Nonlethal Electromagnetic Weapons project, 1980-1983. Byrd examined how to exploit the electrical activity of the brain with electromagnetic energy. Byrd discovered that it was possible to put animals (and even himself into a temporary stupor) by using very low frequency electromagnetic radiation (waves below radio frequencies on the electromagnetic spectrum). Under those conditions, the brain releases certain chemicals in response to the stimulus, usually as a defense mechanism such as the way the teeth chatter to help keep the body warm when too cold. Byrd discovered, as well, that the radiation was capable of causing lab rats to release histamines that, in humans, would cause flu-like symptoms and nausea.

Rumor/Myth? <http://www.soci.niu.edu/~crypt/other/kooks.htm>

"Pulse Wave Myotron. Use of electromagnetic technology to scramble the electrical activity in the motor cortex region of the brain. The victim feels as if millions of needles are pulsing through the body. In demonstration videos (targeted at women who would use the cigarette pack size weapon like mace or a stun gun) the victim falls to the ground immediately, curled up in a fetal position, eyes open. This is because the radiation attacks the involuntary muscles, but overrides the voluntary muscles.

6. Vortex Ring Generator

Integrates concussion, flash, chemical, and impact weapons into a single vortex ring delivery system. Designed as portable, back-pack.

Chemical, light, and wave technologies are being developed in order to exploit the basic functioning of the human body. As Louis Slesin, editor of the trade journal Microwave News, told U.S. News & World Report, "That's because the human body is essentially an electrochemical system, and devices that disrupt the electrical impulses of the nervous system can affect behavior and body functions."

Weapons That Immobilize

1. Nets

Smoke nets/screens that disorient

2. Foams

--Sticky Foam, carried in backpacks; dispensed with attached foam gun that looks like flame-thrower. Sometimes laced with irritants like pepper

--Super foam, has the appearance of soap suds, but dense in consistency [used to block entrances, encase vehicles]

3. Lubricants

--Teflon-based super lubricants <for fans of The Three Stooges and Keystone Kops>

4. Radio

--Radio frequency weapons, generally anti-personnel weapons that use simple radio frequency that is annoying when projected from speakers.

--Psyops type broadcasts designed to demoralize, harrass, threaten

--High powered very low frequency (VLF) modulator. Works in 20-35 KHz spectrum emitting frequency from a 1-2 meter antenna dish to form into a type of acoustic bullet that causes discomfort.

--MF (medium frequency) causes nausea, vomitting, abdominal pain, and are capable of liquifying bowels.

--At extremely high settings bones resonate painfully. Bones can, potentially, explode

--When targeted at the head, VHF cause people to hear voices when their skull resonates. (Used in Branch Davidian stand off)

--RF are bounced high powered radio signals off the ionosphere to debilitate mental functions. (Used in E. European military installations)

5. Sonic/Infrasonic

"Huntington Beach-based Scientific Applications & Research Associates Inc. (SARA) has built a device that will make internal organs resonate: The effects can run from discomfort to damage or death. If used to protect an area, its beams would make intruders increasingly uncomfortable the closer they get. "We have built several prototypes," says Parviz Parhami, SARA's CEO. Such acoustic fences, he says, could be deployed today. He estimates that five to 10 years will be needed to develop acoustic rifles and other more exotic weapons, but adds, "I have heard people as optimistic as one to two years." The military also envisions acoustic fields being used to control riots or to clear paths for convoys."

Weapons Against Machinery

--Metal Embrittlement: chemical technology that produces a clear, nearly residue-less substance that can be applied with a pen. They change the molecular structure of metals and weaken them. cular structure.

--Demons, direct energy weapons, cause machinery to stop functioning or to render it vulnerable to further

--Portable microwave weapon concentrate energy directs the energy into a high-powered pulse and destroys transistors and other electrical equipment.

Disrupts communications and aircraft instrumentation. Can superheat internal organs as an anti-personnel weapon.

--EMP, non-nuclear electromagnetic pulse can "fry" electronics equipment by releasing stored energy simultaneously to create super-high powered pulse. (generates a 12-16 million amp pulse in 400 nanoseconds creates the equivalent of four trillion watts (more than the electrical generating capacity of the world). EMPs are mounted on nose of a cruise missile and focused on specific target to within only several hundred meters of the missile.

--Portable EMP weapons destroy the electrical components in vehicles. Under development as of 1996, a pulse emission that would stop a car immediately. (Developed to enforce no-fly zones)

--Pulsed chemical laser generates hot, high-pressure plasma to create a predictable blast wave at target.

--Isotropic radiator, generates bright, omni-directional light that destroy optics in sensors (and retinas in eyes)

--RFM, or Radio Frequency Munitions are used like grenades, mortor rounds, artillery shells, missles but emit a short, very intense pulse that are said to be capable of causing a target to explode just as if they had been hit by conventional munitions.

Weapons against Informations/Communications/Media

1. Radio Frequency weapons

RFW, radio frequency weapons that use highly directed, intense pulses of radio frequency energy to a target that destroys or degrades the electronics. Developed by the Soviets since 1949, they are said to include:

--Narrow beams over long distance to hit very specific, concentrated target

--Broad beams can be used for more dispersed, multiple targets

--HPM, high powered microwave weapons can be directed against chips, circuit boards.

--UWB, ultra wideband weapons.

2. Voice Synthesis

--Voice cloning and broadcast's of synthesized message. This is the ability to clone a person's voice and broadcast a message. (Uses: 1]. Propaganda; 2] currently capable of controlling broadcasts of foreign radio/t.v. by using orbiting platforms of required electronic equipment; 3] cloning signals, commands and calls.

3. Computer Viruses

4 Other IT weapons

--Manipulating the functions on microelectronic circuitry, "chipping" --Electromagnetic weapons directed against computers, chips, circuitry --The use of microbes and chemical agents to destroy hardware --Van Eck radiation (which allows monitoring of radio emissions from electronic devices). --Video "morphing" or using technology the produce fake images of military leaders, etc. <....>

Janet and Chris Morris of M2 technologies write enthusiatically of a fantastic futuristic scenario in which warfare is very nearly bloodless and, indeed, seemingly humanless:

In fifty years, the battlefield is littered with wreckage of once-smart machines, now blinded, deaf, and dumb, and with human prisoners waiting to be collected by the U.S. and its allies. The battlefield itself is part urban, part wasted plain, part blasted waterfront. The urban landscape is dark, a victim of infrastructure attack from the air: Its power grids are off line, its telecommunications and banking systems are dead; all media sources, now under U.S. control, advise surrender. On the battlefield, an eight micron fog, dispensed by acoustic nozzles, makes it hard for the enemy to see and impossible to target U.S. materiel. Magnetic fencing, emplaced at the perimeters of the operational venue, keeps out enemy reinforcements from the city, and imprisons a few enemy combatants, armored and helmeted against blast overpressure and sensory as well as kinetic attack. Despite countermeasures, U.S. nonlethal and information weapons have destroyed the enemy's links to its remote command posts; U.S. Weapons of Mass Protection have disabled or incapacitated the enemy's war-making machines.

Acoustic "detonation waves" have driven off most of the enemy's arfighters. Air burst acoustic "bullets" and electromagnetic rounds have disarmed, disabled, or routed the rest. Dense protein or polymer foams, some with CS additives, encase some with CS additives, encase enemy fighting vehicles completely, blocking out vision and preventing the escape of those inside, who have barely enough oxygen to breathe.

Inflatable barriers channelize the battlefield. U.S. remotely piloted vehicles (RPVs) search for enemies in hiding with millimeter wave "bioradar." High power microwave (HPM) has cleared the air of enemy RPVs. Along the waterfront, amphibious landing craft drift aimlessly, victims of screw-seeking torpedoes and shaped line charges, their guns turrets bent and frozen by small, smart "sweet spot seeking" missiles. Unmanned U.S. Surface/Subsurface Vehicles (SSVs) patrol among derelicts, their nonlethal and lethal munition guns ready.

On land, remotely controlled counter sniper and mortar systems have cleared the combat zone of enemy fire sources within line of sight. Staring infrared (IR) arrays have guided barrel-cracking smart rounds back along the thermal tracks made by incoming fire, silencing enemy fire and breaking enemy vehicles and equipment. Electro-optical rounds have blinded enemy targeting systems. A few netted combatants struggle weakly, exhausted, stuck like flies to flypaper. Combined effect munitions (CEMS) have silenced anti-air batteries. Liquid metal embrittlement rounds have eroded metal weapons platforms so that occassionaly big guns crumple of their own weight and wings fall from downed aircraft.
