Doug, perhaps you could put this on lbo-talk. There was a report on KGNU Boulder about recent events in Costa Rica. As you may have heard, the government is trying to privatise it's utilities. A reporter named Dave was on the phone during the stations hemispheres program. He stated that thousands of people were in the streets practicing peaceful resistence. The state police force is threatening to go on strike in support of the protesters.
Now this is the shocker. According to this reporter named Dave, military troops from Columbia and Chili are in the country. They are arresting and beating up protesters. Dave says that he was beaten and arrested while trying to photograph the events. He states that he is extremely frightened and was pleading to the listeners to contact all news outlets to ask them to send reporters down to cover the story. He feels that there could be massive bloodshed especially if the police go on strike. Is there anyone on lbo-talk who can verify this report? This Dave fellow can be reached at davidwrg at hotmail.com
