WARSAW, May 1 (Reuters) - Several people were hurt and 14 anarchists were detained during clashes with police at Mayday celebrations in the southern Polish city of Krakow, PAP news agency said on Monday. Trouble erupted when police tried to block a march by the anarchists on a local jail, where one of their comrades was being held for assaulting a policeman earlier this year.
PAP said police were studying video films to identify those behind the incident, in which at least two policemen and a demonstrator were injured. A police vehicle was also damaged.
Earlier in the day, right-wing activists pelted communist sympathisers with paint-filled eggs at a monument in the Baltic port of Gdansk. Leftists and rightists traded insults and flying eggs in Warsaw.
In the western city of Poznan, local anti-communists were out in force dressed as war-painted American Indians and carrying a banner that said: "All reds belong in reservations."
