Why? The statement was not opposition to a global outlook, just global economic injustice. The article quoted the Pope arguing for "globalizing solidarity", exactly what many activists have been arguing for. And noting the strong role of Catholic church leaders in supporting janitors in their struggle in Los Angeles, this just highlights the complicated role of the Catholic church leadership in support of various economic justice movements.
