that was amusing. for some reason they're having the big commencement 
ceremony at UC Berkeley before finals even start. Madelaine Albright is the 
speaker, and not that you would have detected a controversy reading the 
Daily Californian, but there were quite a few protesters, and huge mobs of 
security, and someone payed for a plane to circle around over the open air 
theater with a sign saying "sanctions kill. 1.7 million Iraqi children". 
They were searching everyone, so when the commencement was scheduled to 
start, there were still thousands of people waiting in line to get in. I 
didn't quite like the sense of animosity between us with the signs and 
people going in to attend. I bet someone is going to do some sort of a 
statement inside. the president's medalist is a palestinian history major. I 
crossed out the Int'l socialist organization label on the sign I was handed 
and a spartacist came over to talk at me for a while. I think there are 
actually half a dozen of them here. He called Noam Chomsky a moderate, and 
said that he supported sanctions on Iraq.
