Miriam Rothschild: world authority on fleas and wild flowers. Helped to foster the Prince of Wales's interest in the natural world and farming by developing wildflower meadows at his Highgrove Estate and the dragonfly reserve there. Wendell Berry: mystical poet, essayist, Kentucky farmer and agriculturalist who teaches at the Schumacher College, an ecological studies centre in Totnes, Devon. The Prince is an admirer of his writings.

Jonathon Porritt: Eton- educated green campaigner and former director of Friends of the Earth and the Ecology Party. Now runs Forum For The Future in Cheltenham - a think-tank for greening society and sustainable development. A close friend and adviser to the Prince.

Sir Laurens Van der Post: South African mystic, writer, anti-apartheid campaigner, environmentalist and son of a Boer farmer who died in 1996. Played a formative role in shaping the Prince's love of the natural world, which he gave a spirtual dimension.

Patrick Holden: director of the Soil Association, which certifies and lobbies on behalf of organic agriculture. Advises the Prince on organic and genetic engineering issues.

Paul Ekins: another Forum For The Future founder, the Reader in Economics at Keele University is an expert on green taxes and other economic instruments to achieve environmental aims.
