DATING GAME: They aren't single, but would women want to date Gore or Bush?

Worried because Bush is doing better among female voters, the Gore campaign convenes a focus group and asks women who would make the better date. The answer, according to congressional Democrats briefed on the results: the vice president. Though not a dream date, he was deemed thoughtful, reflective and interested in what woman have to say.

The women thought Bush was the type who would drive up in a flashy convertible, honk the horn instead of coming to the door, lean against his car chewing gum and spend all night talking about himself, according to congressional accounts of a meeting with Gore pollster Harrison Hickman.

The congressional Democrats weren't impressed. "You've got to do better with women," Chicago's Rep. Schakowsky told the Gore team.
