#1 NARAL TRIPLES ANTI-NADER AD BUY; ENLISTS SARAH JESSICA

PARKER TO WARN AGAINST BUSH:

Concerned that growing support for independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader could take votes away from Vice President Al Gore, the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League has increased spending on anti-Nader advertising from $500,000 to $1.5 million. The ad "Think," already running in the battleground states of Oregon, Minnesota and Wisconsin, will also run in Maine, New Mexico, Vermont and Washington through Nov. 7. The ad asks viewers to "please consider" the fact that a 5-4 Supreme Court decision this year "narrowly protected" Roe v. Wade, noting, "A single vote saved a woman's right to choose." The ad continues, "As president, George Bush would reverse the Court ... with anti-choice justices Scalia and Thomas in control." The ad says that Bush's goal is to "en[d] legal abortion," adding that "[v]oting for Ralph Nader helps elect George W. Bush." The ad concludes, "Before voting Nader ... consider the risk. It's your choice." NARAL President Kate Michelman said, "In this critical election, NARAL has an obligation to point out to pro-choice Americans that the unintended consequence of a vote for Ralph Nader could be the election of George W. Bush ... [who] is anti-choice and as president could appoint enough Supreme Court justices to overturn Roe v. Wade." According to a NARAL release, Nader currently has "5% or more" of the votes in "10 key battleground states." SARAH JESSICA PARKER ADDRESSES 'DEADLY SERIOUS ISSUE'

In another NARAL effort to increase support for Gore, the organization has sponsored an email-based advertisement featuring "Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker. Parker states that while viewers may have "seen [her] on television talking about the lighter side of sex," there is a "deadly serious issue coming up that we should all be thinking about." She notes that "most people don't know that George W. Bush supports banning abortion and opposes comprehensive sex education," adding that "Al Gore supports family planning and a woman's right to choose." She concludes, "If you care about the choice, learn about the candidates' positions," imploring viewers to "forward this email to everyone you know."
