This is to repeat the gist of the articles I've just posted, but I just am appalled that the two Chucks are both denigrating the right to use the courts to fight voting rights violations, with Chuck Grimes comparing such legal battles to tantrums and ejaculation.
The frigging ballot violated state law in Palm Beach, voters were denied translators, police setup road checks near polling booths, latinos were harassed to provide extra identification not required by law, and registered black voters were told they were not registered.
IT IS NOT A TANTRUM to demand that these illegal voting rights violations be corrected....

I hate to say it Nathan, but this sounds remarkably like a tantrum---not that it matters.
I think you missed the point of the post. I don't decry legal battles, in fact I celebrate them--admittedly in this context as pure opportunism.
The candidates and their political machines are utterly despicable and richly deserve the farce the voters have delivered to them. They campaigned to appear indistinguishable, and indeed, they have succeeded.
While I defend people who demand that their franchise be honored by the system, I am not under any illusions. Of course the political system has reduced the people's will to an almost meaningless pin prick but even that seems barely tolerated. I think if these battles continue to escalate we will see just how little tolerance the power elite has for the chaotic mess of the people who night after night continue to demand this and that. As the Bush campaign manager said, there is no end to it. Precisely.
The pressure is not mounting on Gore or Bush, but on the people to shut the fuck up and behave as if a large hole has not just opened up in the facade. My real desire is to find ways to keep that hole from closing. Legal challenges are fine, but the more important point is that any means that brings that hole into view and keeps it there should be pursued.
