Then Mr Breslin wrote:

But then again the center of gravity is moving rightward, slowly or quickly but determinedly. So to some the substance of the changes represented by those "shades" takes on considerable importance. For some...of us... Reaganism becomes a significant data point for change, the continuation of which is represented by Bush.

But I'm beginning to see the point many on the list are driving home: the spector of Bush is more or less a middle class fear. _____________

Small causes can have disproportionate impacts. For example, it is perfectly possible by the flick of a single switch to illuminate an entire room.

Simply George Bush's open hostility to gays and lesbians can light the nation up in homophobia. Does anyone look forward to a return to the intolerance of Reagan and Bush?

The right to choose could be more seriously impaired.

Massive tax cuts for the rich and the end of the death tax (from which I substantially benefit) will only leave more debt on the backs of the overtaxed working class and senior citizens.

Welfare reform will be even more draconian; benefits for legal non citizens will probably be terminated as the Republicans have already tried. Should we punish Gore for his welfare reform by voting in those who will punish the poor even more with welfare reform? What kind of idiotic reasoning is this? The people who think this way are truly the spoiled middle class brats, not those who cast their vote for Gore as a lesser evil?

And does one look forward to Steve Hanke and Lawrence Lindsay setting up currency boards in Indonesia next time crisis strikes?

And yes, some middle class minorities and women will be set back. Is this a good thing? A small thing?

And of course if W should by some misfortune choke on his own overwhelming stupidity and die, we could well be on the way to fascism. Has anyone examined Cheney's voting record?

My respect remains for anyone who abstained from the elections, as I did, only because I refuse to accept the legitimacy of the system. I was not going to ask anyone to accept my candidate if he won because no legitimate candidate can emerge victorious from this system.

However, I have no respect for anyone who voted for Nader who is a Millikan-funded reactionary and union buster; these infantile, whining leftist business observers not only guaranteed a Bush victory but also implicitly committed themselves to the legitimacy of Bush rule.

It is truly pathetic to hear self justifications for the infantile voting behavior of several people on this list, culminating in Mr Henwood telling me to take a chill pill, i.e., drug myself out so I won't be sensitive to the consequences of his, Ms Ehrenreich's, Mr Sawicky's, and Mr Marable's destructive behavior.

With the same warm greetings, Jan
